Badminton legend Lee Chong Wei has been appointed as one of the new council members of the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
BAM president Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the appointment of Chong Wei and three others was approved by council members during today’s meeting.
The other three new council members are media strategist and former Telekom Malaysia Bhd CEO Shazalli Ramly, EPF investment panel and board member Gooi Hoe Soon, and lawyer Sunil Abraham.
“They are independent. Five (new members) can be appointed but we decided on four first after consulting council members,” he said at his first council meeting at Akademi Badminton Malaysia here today.
Tengku Zafrul said the committees are expected to be finalised by October at the next BAM council meeting, but some decisions may be implemented earlier.
He also confirmed his proposal to streamline BAM’s committee structure for greater efficiency.
“My proposal is (that) we look at combining some committees and have new ones, too. Again, I want to be more inclusive in my decision,” he said.
