KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to attend the 28th -Asean Summit here during his two-day visit to Malaysia beginning Monday (Oct 27).

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s official website, Li will also take part in the 28th Asean Plus Three Summit, the 20th East Asia Summit and the fifth Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders’ Meeting, all taking place in Kuala Lumpur on Monday and Tuesday.

Li is undertaking his second visit to Malaysia this year at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

He was in Kuala Lumpur for the Asean--GCC Summit from May 26 to 28, also at the invitation of in his capacity as the Asean Chair for 2025.

The Chinese Premier will undertake a two-day visit to Singapore on Saturday and Sunday before coming to Malaysia.

The 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Sunday to Tuesday under Malaysia’s Asean 2025 Chairmanship themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.

The summit will bring together leaders from the 10 Asean member states and dialogue partners, including the United States, , Japan and India, in what is expected to be the largest Asean gathering since the bloc’s founding in 1967.

Global leaders set to attend include US President Donald , Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This year also marks Malaysia’s fifth time chairing Asean, following previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015. – Bernama
