ACCRA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese communities in Ghana have donated relief supplies worth more than 2 million cedis (about 163,000 U.S. dollars) to victims of the recent violent conflict in the country’s Savannah Region.

According to Greenhouse International Development Group Ghana Limited and the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, their donation included rice, beverages, tomato paste, blankets, buckets, mosquito coils, detergent, soap, and sanitary pads. The supplies arrived in the affected districts on Tuesday and Friday.

Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe commended the Chinese communities for their support. “On behalf of the people of Savannah and the President of Ghana, I want to say a big thank-you. The relief items will be distributed to those who need them most,” the minister said.

Violent clashes between the Brifo and Gonja ethnic groups in late August over disputed land left 31 people dead, several injured, and many displaced, while farms, markets, and businesses were abandoned or destroyed.
