BEIJING: has officially recorded its hottest summer on record during 2025 according to the national meteorological authority.

The Meteorological Administration announced that large parts of the country experienced intense heat from June through August this year.

National average temperatures reached 22.31 degrees Celsius during this period, marking the hottest summer in ‘s recorded history.

Authorities had issued warnings in July about heat-related health risks across eastern China as temperatures soared.

Beijing experienced temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius during June’s heatwave conditions.

Meteorological officials in Japan, and the United Kingdom also reported record average summer temperatures this week.

The administration noted that while some regions would experience temporary relief from the extreme heat mid-week, cities including Shanghai would see temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius again by week’s end.

Human greenhouse gas emissions continue to drive climate change that causes longer, more frequent and more intense heatwaves globally.

China remains the world’s largest producer of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas contributing to global warming.

The country has committed to reaching peak emissions by the end of this decade and achieving net zero emissions by 2060.

China has simultaneously emerged as a global leader in renewable energy development in recent years.

This transition represents a strategic pivot away from highly polluting coal consumption within its massive economy. – AFP
