KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) — Income generated by Rukun Tetangga Areas (KRT) should be channelled back to the community in the form of shared benefits, according to National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
He said this approach would ensure that every initiative, effort and economic gain by KRTs adds value to the local population, including improvements to shared facilities such as community halls and activity centres.
“It also includes funding education and skills training programmes for local youth, as well as providing welfare assistance to vulnerable groups in the neighbourhood,” he said in a statement.
Aaron also called for greater youth involvement through the Jiran Muda platform to meet the ministry’s goal of at least 30 per cent youth representation in each KRT. To date, 34 KRT chairpersons are under the age of 30.
There are currently 8,586 KRT units nationwide, with the first established on Jan 1, 1974, at Kampung Baru Macap Baru.
