Center for Chinese language, professional skills launched in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — The first center for Chinese language and professional skills in Nepal was inaugurated on Thursday in the Kathmandu Valley to cultivate local talents who are proficient in Chinese and master electrical technologies.

Chinese education and power-related vocational skills training shall be combined to produce quality local professional, technical and management talents under the project initiated jointly by Zhengzhou Electric Power College in central ‘s Henan Province and the overseas business department of Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of .

As it has been operating in Nepal for nearly 40 years, the overseas business department has deeply understood the crucial role of local talents in business development, said Jiang Qixiao, the department’s project manager in Nepal.

The combination of Chinese learning and vocational skills training at the newly-launched center in the city of Lalitpur is a key measure to address the talent bottleneck, Jiang said at the opening ceremony.

Addressing the opening ceremony via video link, Tian Shili, a senior official from the Zhengzhou Electric Power College, voiced hope that the center will become a platform for Nepali learners to learn Chinese, master skills and realize their personal dreams as well as a bond to help promote the localization of projects, cultural exchanges and friendship between the countries and peoples.

The center in Nepal, established jointly by a Chinese college and an enterprise on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, has opened up a new path for improving the employment competitiveness of locals in Nepal, Wang Xin, a counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, said at the opening ceremony.

A total of 35 centers for Chinese language and professional skills have been established in 25 countries since 2021, noted Yu Tianqi, deputy director of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under ‘s Ministry of Education.

Yu suggested that the center in Nepal shall serve the needs of enterprises, help local development and cultural exchanges, and promote mutual learning between Chinese and Nepalese civilizations and friendship from generation to generation.
