GEORGE TOWN:

Part of Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim near the Jalan Kenari junction in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, here, collapsed this afternoon.

Penang executive councillor Zairil Khir Johari said his office was alerted to the cave-in and a team from the state’s public works department was heading to the site to carry out emergency mitigation works to ensure road users’ safety.

“The public is advised to be careful and obey the instructions of the personnel on site,” he said in a Facebook post.

It is understood that no casualties were reported and the road has been temporarily closed.

The cave-in occurred on the stretch of road in front of KFC Desa Riang, opposite SMK Sungai Ara.

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz is also present at the location of the cave-in.
