KUALA LUMPUR: Cape EMS Bhd has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co Ltd to localise battery energy storage solutions (Bess) in Malaysia and supply them across the Asean region.

Shanghai Sermatec will transfer the full assembly of its Bess units to Cape EMS’s Senai manufacturing facility, where the systems will be locally produced, insured and supported with long-term operations and maintenance contracts.

Cape EMS, through its unit CAPE Renewables Sdn Bhd, will also take charge of localised monitoring and management of the systems, ensuring seamless operations, faster technical support and improved efficiency for projects across the region.

“Through this collaboration, Cape EMS is not only bringing global-standard Bess technology closer to home but also building the regional capability to support, maintain and scale clean energy infrastructure in Asean,” Cape EMS said in a statement.

Shanghai Sermatec said Malaysia serves as a strategic base for its regional ambitions, adding that Cape EMS’s expertise in engineering and renewable energy solutions makes it the ideal partner.

“By enabling local production and lifecycle management of our Bess units, we aim to offer our Asean clients more responsive, reliable and cost-effective energy storage options,” it said.

The companies said the partnership supports the deployment of clean and reliable power systems across Asean, aligning with rising demand from large-scale solar projects and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
