Canon today has officially launched the EOS R6 Mk III full-frame mirrorless camera both globally and in Malaysia. It is the successor to the second generation model which debuted three years ago, equipped with numerous upgrades in hardware and features.

The EOS R6 Mark III features a new 32.5MP sensor, offering a notable resolution jump from the R6 II’s 24MP chip. It delivers high-speed continuous shooting at up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter, or 12 fps with the mechanical or first-curtain shutter. The camera also supports 20 frames of pre-shooting, allowing photographers to capture moments even before fully pressing the shutter.

Autofocus performance sees further refinement with Canon’s proven Dual Pixel AF system powered by the latest Digic X processor. The R6 III can focus in lighting conditions as low as -6 EV and includes AI-based subject tracking for people, animals, and vehicles. Canon has also added an Auto mode to automatically select the right subject type, along with the “Register People Priority” feature from the R5 II, which maintains focus on pre-registered faces.

Thanks to its higher resolution sensor, the R6 Mark III can record up to 7K 60 fps RAW Light video and 7K 30 fps “open gate” footage, as well as 4K video at up to 120 fps. The camera supports Canon’s C-Log2 and C-Log3 profiles and offers a wide range of codecs including HEVC S, AVC-S, RAW, and RAW Light. Autofocus tracking for all subjects remains available during video capture, maintaining Canon’s reputation for precise and reliable AF performance.

Design-wise, the R6 III retains Canon’s familiar ergonomic layout, including dual control dials on the top, a rear joystick, and a flip-out LCD touchscreen. The electronic viewfinder remains a 3.69-million-dot panel, similar to the Sony A7 IV, while the new CFexpress slot allows for faster data handling alongside an SD UHS-II slot. The same battery used in the R5 II powers the R6 III, rated for up to 390 shots per charge.

Canon has also improved in-body image stabilisation, now rated at up to 8.5 stops. Additional touches include waveform monitoring, refined focus transition algorithms derived from Canon’s Cinema EOS line, and standard connectivity ports such as full-sized HDMI, USB-C, and 3.5mm audio jacks.

It is priced at RM10,999 for body only, RM12,499 when bundled together with an RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM lens, or RM15,999 if with an RF24-105mm F4L IS USM lens. It’s also worth noting that the R6 Mk III launched at a lower price than its predecessor.

Alongside the camera, Canon also announced the RF45mm f/1.2 STM lens, promising fast optics and shallow depth of field in a compact 346g form factor. The new lens is priced at RM1,879.
