PETALING JAYA:

A group of 17 Bersatu Youth leaders have questioned the credibility of an assemblyman from Kedah for labelling Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who has been suspended from the party, an opportunist and a hypocrite.

In a statement, the group, which opted to remain anonymous, questioned Amar Pared Mahmud’s conduct at the party polls.

Amar, who is the elected representative for Kuah, is also the Langkawi Bersatu chief.

“Did the divisions in Langkawi adhere to the rules when they held their meetings? And can Amar, who is not well known among the wing’s grassroots, speak on behalf of the Bersatu Youth members?”

On Saturday, Amar labelled the former Bersatu Youth chief an opportunist who put his own interests above those of the party, in response to Wan Fayhsal’s remarks.

Amar also said Wan Fayhsal’s comments also brought to light his personal agenda which did not align with Bersatu’s principles.

Last night, the youth leaders also questioned the timing of Amar’s criticisms.

They wondered why Amar had only brought up Wan Fayhsal’s alleged failure as the Bersatu Youth chief in managing the wing after his suspension and his public rebuke of president Yassin.

“It only shows that Amar is not a sincere leader and is not fit to be a leader.”

They also questioned why Amar had not raised his concerns about Wan Fayhsal’s leadership as the Bersatu Youth chief when Amar was a member of the wing’s executive council.

They said Amar had previously claimed that he was close to many Bersatu leaders. As such, he had the opportunity to raise his concerns with them.

“Amar did not have the courage to reprimand Wan Fayhsal when the latter was the wing’s chief. It shows what a hypocrite he is.”

Wan Fayhsal, the Machang MP, was suspended on Oct 14 for violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
