PHNOM PENH, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Cambodia collected a total of 3.27 billion U.S. dollars from all sources of taxes in the first half of 2025, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said in a report on Monday.

The Southeast Asian country has two institutions responsible for collecting taxes.

One is the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), which collects taxes on goods entering and leaving the country, and the other is the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which focuses on interior taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value added tax, and property tax.

The GDCE made 1.48 billion dollars in customs and excise revenue during the January-June period this year, up 21 percent compared to the same period last year.

“Customs and excise revenue collected from automobiles and machinery rose by 50.9 percent, while revenue earned from tax on general goods and construction materials increased by 13.2 percent and 31.4 percent, respectively, as revenue from petroleum dropped by 1.1 percent,” the report showed.

For the GDT, it earned 1.79 billion dollars in tax revenue during the first six months of this year, up 2.5 percent compared to the same period last year, it added.
