Calls grow for DAP to cut ties with Akmal over flag issue

KUALA LUMPUR: Negeri Sembilan DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) has urged its party leadership to sever ties with Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over the flag issue.

The group said Akmal’s actions regarding the upside-down Jalur Gemilang incident had crossed the line and were “tantamount to bullying.”

This follows a similar call made by Penang Dapsy yesterday, which Akmal has challenged the party to act on.

On Thursday, Akmal led more than 300 supporters from , Bersatu, and in a 1.4km march to protest a hardware store that had displayed the national flag incorrectly.

The store owner, Pang Chin Tian, 59, had apologised for the incident last Saturday, stating it was unintentional.

In its statement, Negeri Sembilan Dapsy said that when Youth made a similar mistake, Akmal did not demand charges be filed.

“Politicians who are divisive and incite hate should be rejected by all Pakatan Harapan supporters,” it said.

The group said it supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim’s call for action against those who bully and intimidate others.

“We urge the DAP and national Dapsy leadership to take a stand and cut ties with irresponsible politicians like Akmal to ensure we are consistent in rejecting divisive politics,” it said.

Yesterday, Akmal said on Facebook that any decision to cut ties with him would mean DAP was severing ties with Umno Youth and the party as a whole.
