PUTRAJAYA, Sept 10 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today said a website named “Caghi”, which allegedly sells Malaysians’ personal data, has been blocked since June 2022.
He said, however, that the authorities have yet to verify the status of data on the version of the website that remains active.
“We do not have confirmation regarding the status of the data held by the website, but the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been in contact with service providers to obtain further information on the individual behind it,” he said at his weekly post-Cabinet press conference.
Recently, a Facebook post went viral alleging that the site had leaked identity card numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration and licence details, banking information, and business ownership records.
The post also claimed that users could obtain a person’s data for as little as RM5.
Checks by Malay Mail at the time of publishing showed the website was still active.
