SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — Parti Amanah Negara will leave it to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to decide on his Cabinet line-up if there is any Cabinet reshuffle, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said today.
Asked if Amanah will get more ministerial posts in the Cabinet, Mohamad said this is for the prime minister to decide.
“The Cabinet is the prime minister’s prerogative. He can appoint politicians, professionals, those within parties, those outside parties. That is up to the prime minister,” he said in a press conference during a break at Amanah’s National Convention 2025 here at the Dewan Raja Muda Musa.
Asked if he would be ready if his own ministerial portfolio is changed in any Cabinet reshuffle, Mohamad indicated he could accept any posts, again reiterating that it would be up to the prime minister.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, is also minister of agriculture and food security.
He confirmed that Amanah has not held any discussions with Anwar regarding Cabinet positions, stressing that it would be up to the prime minister to decide.
He confirmed that Amanah will just accept any decisions Anwar makes on the Cabinet, as the focus will be on upcoming elections: “Yes, just accept, because we have to take care (jaga), as elections are near, we have to strengthen the team to face elections.”
Yesterday, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said he was “joking” when he remarked that he may have two to three weeks left in office, and said questions about any Cabinet reshuffle would have to be directed to the prime minister.
Zambry’s two-year term as senator is due to expire on December 2, with this lawmaking position enabling him to serve first as foreign minister and subsequently in his current role as higher education minister.
Yesterday, Anwar sidestepped the question of any potential Cabinet reshuffle with a cheeky response: “Do you want Rumba dance or Salsa dance?”.
His response was a playful wordplay on rombakan, the Malay term for reshuffle, which sounds similar to the word “Rumba”.
