KOTA KINABALU: The remains of Sabah Umno chief and Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, brought out of Gleneagles Hospital at 3.05am today.
The Kinabatangan member of parliament, who was also the Lamag assemblyman, was understood to have been brought to his home, Idang Residence, in Luyang.
The area outside Gleneagles Hospital was filled with party leaders and members, many of whom were visibly grief-stricken.
Bung Moktar breathed his last at 1.46am while receiving treatment at the private hospital.
The news was confirmed by his son, Naim Kurniawan Moktar, in a Facebook post.
As of now, there has been no official statement regarding his medical condition.
However, a media report quoting Sabah Umno secretary Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the late leader had suffered kidney failure and a lung infection.
Earlier, Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Musa Aman, visited Bung Moktar at the hospital at about 11.30pm.
Funeral arrangements are set to begin with a visitation at his residence in Luyang, from 8am to 9.30am today, followed by the bathing of the remains at 10am at Masjid Bandaraya.
The funeral prayer is expected to take place after Friday prayers at the same mosque, with the burial to follow at the Kampung Likas cemetery.
