SHAH ALAM: Malaysians will be able to check their eligibility for the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) subsidy online from Sept 25 onwards, says Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

The Finance Minister II said this can be done via www.budimadani.gov.my, which is not live yet.

Users can key in their MyKad number on the website to check their eligibility.

Amir Hamzah explained that Malaysians would be able to enjoy the subsidised price following three simple steps: MyKad verification, payment, and refuelling.

A one-time MyKad activation will also be required upon first-time use.

Those pumping fuel can verify their MyKad at the petrol pump or in-store at petrol stations, where MyKad terminals will be available.

It can also be done via selected e-wallet applications and the individual petrol companies’ applications.

Amir Hamzah explained that the government arrived at the monthly limit of 300 litres based on data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia.

“If we had set the cut-off at 140 litres per month, 90% of Malaysians would qualify, but the government said, ‘We want to ensure the majority of people benefit.’ Thus, the cut-off we decided upon is one that covers 99% of the population,” he said.

Malaysians will save RM183 to RM228 a month based on the RON95 price of between RM2.60 and RM2.75 (Automatic Pricing Mechanism).
