PETALING JAYA:

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has revealed that some parents whose children were expelled from Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) over their involvement in bullying cases are planning to sue him and the agency.

He said, however, that his priority is to safeguard the safety of the majority of students, and not to protect a handful who behave like thugs.

“My response: Bring it on! #YouTouchYouGo,” he said in a Facebook post.

However, Asyraf did not provide further details on the bullying case, or cases, in question.

There have been several cases of students being expelled from MRSM this year, including six students from an MRSM in Melaka who were kicked out after being found involved in a bullying incident on July 18.

Asyraf said he had received numerous social media alerts about the incident since July 19 and immediately ordered Mara’s management to submit a report, which confirmed the case.

The previous month, another six students who physically bullied a 14-year-old student at a MRSM in Besut, Terengganu, were expelled.

In April, a MRSM in Penang expelled seven students for bullying a fellow resident.

Asyraf announced last month that Mara has appointed retired military and police officers as hostel wardens for two MRSMs, one in Terengganu and the other in Penang, under a pilot initiative starting this month to prevent any bullying activity.
