KUALA LUMPUR: A multi-vehicle crash which killed a one-year-old boy and injured eight others at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza is believed to have been caused by a lorry’s brake failure.
The lorry driver, who was heading from Semenyih towards Putrajaya, reportedly lost control due to faulty brakes before ploughing into three vehicles waiting at the toll lanes.
Kajang police chief Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
He added the other injured victims were rushed to Kajang Hospital, Serdang Hospital and a private hospital for treatment.
“The 42-year-old local lorry driver has been arrested and will be remanded to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
If convicted, the driver could face between five and 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50mil, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least five years.

“Motorists must exercise caution, drive responsibly and obey traffic laws at all times for the safety of all road users.
“Besides the lorry, three other vehicles were involved in the accident: a four-wheel drive, a car and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
