Bosnia's FK Sarajevo name academy after Johor Regent Tunku Ismail

KUALA LUMPUR: The name of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has been etched into the football landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This follows Bosnia’s storied club, FK Sarajevo, naming their academy the FK Sarajevo Football Academy – Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

The club said the move marks a major milestone in their international development.

“Sarajevo’s football academy is now named the FK Sarajevo Football Academy – Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

“This decision represents a significant step in FK Sarajevo’s global growth, reflecting the shared vision of the club’s main investor,” the club said on their official website.

FK Sarajevo added that their partnership with Tunku Ismail will serve as a bridge between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Malaysia.

The collaboration will include sharing expertise in management, organisation and player development. It will also include talent identification projects, as well as player and coach exchanges – initiatives aimed at strengthening ties and expanding knowledge and technical know-how.

The club said the goal is to build a sustainable long-term development system that strengthens the relationship between FK Sarajevo and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), not only in football but also in management and organisational excellence.
