KOTA BARU: The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) seized RM78,180 in cash from a 35-year-old local lorry driver at the Rantau Panjang ICQS Complex on Sunday (Jan 11) after he failed to declare the money.

Rantau Panjang AKPS deputy commander Bakri Sulaiman said officers found the cash hidden in a small green plastic bag at the front passenger footwell during a routine inspection of the vehicle entering the country.

“This cash seizure is the first case recorded by AKPS Rantau Panjang this year,” he said when contacted on Monday.

Bakri said the driver was released on bail pending further investigation, with the case referred to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department under Section 135(a) of the Customs Act 1967.

Preliminary investigations indicate the cash likely belongs to the driver’s employer, who runs a retail business in Sungai Golok, Thailand. – Bernama
