KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah Electricity worker who was swept away by floodwaters in Sungai Nuntunan, Apin-Apin, Keningau, last Tuesday (Sept 16), was found drowned this evening.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Pisar Aziz said the body of the 35-year-old man was discovered by Team Galen Star in Sungai Kampung Liau Laut, Keningau, at 6.18pm.
“The fire and rescue team assisted in retrieving the victim, who will be handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement tonight.
Earlier, he said today’s search and rescue operation focused on the Kampung Linsudan area, following the discovery of the victim’s shoe along the village riverbank.
“The distance from where the victim was first reported missing to Kampung Linsudan is approximately 21 kilometres,” he added.
Team Galen Star is a volunteer unit that assists the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department in search and rescue operations involving water-related incidents.
In the incident, three employees from the company were swept away by floodwaters while on their way to Kampung Nuntunan, Apin-Apin, Keningau, to carry out electricity supply restoration work. Two of them managed to save themselves, while one was carried away by strong currents.
In a separate statement, Sabah Electricity confirmed that the worker was Masedeh Rosmin, 35, an employee based in Keningau who was swept away while on duty in the field.
The company expressed its deepest sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to his family.
“Sabah Electricity will ensure that all necessary support, including welfare assistance and emotional support, is provided to his family.
“Masedeh’s passing is deeply felt by the entire Sabah Electricity family. He will be remembered as a highly dedicated staff member. May his soul be blessed and placed among the righteous,” the statement read.
The company also conveyed its appreciation to the authorities and all rescue teams involved in the operation — particularly Team Galen Star, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, as well as colleagues who took part in the search efforts.
