KUANTAN, Sept 16 — The excavator driver who was reported buried in a rockfall at a quarry site in Ulu Gali, Sungai Ruan, Raub, was found dead today.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations and rescue Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the body of Mohammad Fazrul Illahi Ab Rahman, 30, was discovered by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 4.15 pm.
“The victim’s body was found intact at a depth of five metres, about 12 metres from where he was reported to have fallen,” he said when contacted.
Mohd Salahuddin said the remains were handed over to the police for further action.
Nearly 70 personnel from JBPM, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force and quarry workers were involved in the fourth day of the operation, which began at 8 am today.
The SAR effort also involved sniffer dogs from JBPM and PDRM, while villagers joined rescuers in performing solat hajat at the site.
In the 12.50 pm incident last Saturday, Mohammad Fazrul Illahi was operating an excavator when he was struck by falling rocks from a nearby hillside.
Three other foreign workers escaped with minor injuries. — Bernama
