MEMBAKUT: Barisan Nasional (BN) will arrange a meeting with MIC‘s top leadership after the Sabah election to discuss the resolution passed by the party at its recent convention to leave the coalition and join the opposition.
BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said he believes MIC‘s leadership will carefully consider the matter before making any decision.
“We will meet with MIC‘s top leadership. I will personally try to meet them, so that we can resolve this amicably. Let us wait until the stormy seas, strong waves, and high tides settle.
“We will fix our ‘ship’, patch any leaks, correct what is wrong, and continue once the storm has passed,” Mohamad told reporters after attending a community engagement session at Kampung Binsulok today.
He added that he hoped MIC would reconsider the matter in light of its long-standing ties with BN, MCA and Umno.
“The good relationship between MIC and BN has lasted a long time. We are very close, so if there are issues to clarify or misunderstandings, it is best we discuss them together.
“This ensures that the long-standing friendship is not abruptly broken, because friendship is important. Sometimes, there will be talk, and that is normal.
“But as top leaders, I am confident that the president, deputy president, and MIC’s leadership will carefully consider any decision they make,” he said.
It was reported that MIC deputy president M. Saravanan tabled three resolutions at the party’s 79th convention on Nov 16, including leaving BN and formally applying to join opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional.
While delegates debated the resolutions, no vote was taken as the convention agreed to leave the decision to MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran and MIC’s top leadership.
