
Yusri Bakir of Barisan Nasional has won the by-election for the Ayer Kuning state seat in Perak after securing 11,065 votes in a three-cornered contest, the Election Commission has announced.
According to official results, Yusri won the seat with a 5006-vote majority, over his closest rival, Perikatan Nasional’s Abdul Muhaimin Malek of PAS who garnered 6,059 votes. Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s KS Bawani received only 1,106 votes.
The final voter turnout in the by-election was 58.07%, lower than the 74.85% recorded in the 2022 general election.
There are 31,897 registered voters on the electoral roll for the Ayer Kuning by-election.
Ishsam Shahruddin retained the seat for BN in 2022 with a 2,213-vote majority, defeating candidates from Pakatan Harapan, PN, PSM and Pejuang in a five-cornered contest.
PH and BN later formed the unity government.
