Barisan Nasional will contest rural seats in Sabah, while Pakatan Harapan has been tasked with winning urban areas following negotiations for the next state polls, says Umno war room secretariat chief Ahmad Maslan.
The Umno Supreme Council member was quoted as saying the finalised seat allocations send a positive message that the BN-PH tie up is on the right track for the final dash to the Sabah elections.
“I cannot say how many seats have been allocated to BN, because this will be announced by the central leadership,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
“What I can say is that urban seats belong to PH, whether DAP or PKR, while BN will focus on the rural areas,” he said in Pontian, Johor today.
Ahmad said BN and Umno are preparing for the elections earlier and in a more organised and systematic fashion than in 2020.
Yesterday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported as saying that seat allocations between BN and PH for the Sabah polls had been confirmed.
However, no negotiations between BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah have taken place, out of respect for PH, which is a coalition partner of GRS in the state government.
The Sabah assembly’s term expires on Nov 11, unless dissolved earlier to pave the way for the 17th Sabah elections.
