BN and Umno may face declining support in Selangor if redelineation goes ahead


SHAH ALAM: Barisan Nasional () and may lose greater support in if the government proceeds with the redelineation of electoral constituencies, particularly in urban areas.

The concern was raised by Vice-President of the Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) and Mubarak chief, Tan Sri Zainal Dahalan, noting currently holds only two state assembly seats in Sungai Air Tawar and Dusun Tua and did not win any parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election.

He was speaking at the Veterans Town Hall session in Shah Alam yesterday.

He cited Article 113 of the Federal Constitution, which allows redelineation eight years after the last exercise, from 26 March next year.

Meanwhile, Selangor liaison chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said that redelineation of parliamentary and state assembly constituencies will not occur before PRU16, but preparations are underway for potential changes.

Umno Selangor plans to propose new seats if redelineation happens before PRU16, taking into account voter numbers exceeding 300,000 in some areas such as Gombak, he added.
