Bersatu Youth’s Meor Naqiuddin today hit back at the wing’s information chief for suggesting that he had an agenda following his criticism of the party’s recent general assembly.
In a Facebook post, Meor asked if Harris Idaham Rashid had read his comments in their entirety or understood what was written when he expressed disappointment with the outcome of the general assembly last weekend.
Harris told FMT last night that the disappointment Meor felt likely stemmed from the failure of certain camps to push their agenda.
This morning, Meor shot back, saying: “Yes, I admit, the agenda of many delegates and mine was not fulfilled, which is the ‘rakyat’s’ agenda.”
The Parit Bersatu Youth chief also said he had specifically mentioned that while many delegates touched on economic and social-related issues as well as the cost of living, this had been drowned out by “one drama-filled resolution”.
On Sunday, the Bersatu general assembly unanimously resolved to nominate party president Muhyiddin Yassin as its prime minister candidate.
This followed a minor commotion which broke out as Muhyiddin was revealing in his presidential address that certain party members had been collecting signatures to oust him.
While a small group heckled him, the majority of delegates chanted “Hidup Tan Sri” in his support.
Meor also addressed accusations that his comments had smeared the party’s image and that he should face disciplinary action.
He said he was unsure if the likes of Harris had read the negative comments from the public, members or fellow Perikatan Nasional components on the resolution naming Muhyiddin as a prime minister candidate.
Meor said if anything, the comments by Harris had sullied the party’s image.
“But if this is the level of competence of the information chiefs, then we can understand why many of the matters raised by the party are not understood by the public.”
