PETALING JAYA:

Bersatu has suspended the membership of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

A letter sighted by FMT stated that the party’s disciplinary board, which met last night, had decided to suspend the MPs’ membership rights under Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu constitution for one election term.

The letter, signed by disciplinary board chairman Radzi Manan, said the suspension was imposed for breaching Clause 9.1.4 of the party’s constitution, which requires members to comply with the party’s constitution, code of ethics and code of conduct.

Both MPs are stripped of all party positions and prohibited from making any statements on behalf of Bersatu until the end of the suspension period.

The letter also stated that the affected members may appeal to the party’s appeals board within 14 days from the date of the notice.

According to party sources, the disciplinary board also expelled five division chiefs from the party.

The action was reportedly taken over allegations that the seven individuals were involved in a “statutory declaration (SD) movement” aimed at toppling Bersatu president Yassin, and over their alleged role in a recent commotion during an official event.

When contacted, Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said he could not confirm the matter.

“I can’t verify it. I assume the disciplinary board communicated directly with them individually,” he told FMT.

FMT has reached out to Wan Saiful, Wan Fayhsal, and the party’s disciplinary board for comment.
