A Bersatu Supreme Council member plans to refer secretary-general Azmin Ali to the party’s disciplinary board over alleged threats made against division leaders linked to a supposed plot to oust Muhyiddin Yassin as president.
Wan Saiful Wan Jan also said he will file a similar complaint against Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
“I will probably do it in a day or two,” he said at a press conference here today.
Wan Saiful’s plan to refer Azmin and Tun Faisal to the disciplinary board comes days after he confirmed that statutory declarations were collected from division chiefs ahead of the party’s annual general meeting on Sept 9 purportedly to push for Muhyiddin‘s ouster.
However, the Tasek Gelugor MP said the move had been “twisted” by certain quarters to paint a negative picture, as the true intention of the SDs was not to topple the party president.
It was reported that just a few hours before Muhyiddin‘s keynote speech at the AGM, 122 of 169 division chiefs broke ranks to have lunch 5km away from the Ideal Convention Centre where the assembly was held.
Muhyiddin later acknowledged during his policy speech that there was a plot to collect signatures to oust him, sparking chaos.
However, the AGM concluded with Muhyiddin’s position secured after the delegates unanimously endorsed him as Bersatu’s prime minister candidate.
This afternoon, Wan Saiful said two division leaders – Suhaimi Ghazali (Sepang) and Shukor Mustafa (Puchong) – were summoned by Azmin for a meeting on Aug 19 at the party’s headquarters.
He claimed that Azmin told the duo they would not be named as candidates in an election if they did not retract their SDs.
However, Suhaimi and Shukor refused to do so as the said document had nothing to do with wanting to topple Muhyiddin, he said. Nor had they signed any documents linked to such a plot.
“So how can they retract them?” he asked.
Wan Saiful said Azmin was adamant that they would not be named as candidates if they did not retract their SDs.
“In fact, Azmin had also said that I would not be named as a candidate. He gave the impression that he had the power to decide on candidates,” he said.
