A Bersatu associate wing leader has come to secretary-general Azmin Ali’s defence, a day after a Supreme Council member claimed that the former Selangor menteri besar was unfit to lead.
Goh Gaik Meng said under Azmin’s leadership, Perikatan Nasional won 22 seats and had almost wrested Selangor from Pakatan Harapan’s grip in the last state polls.
Azmin, according to Goh, had reshuffled the Selangor PN leadership when he took over from Abdul Rashid Asari.
“It is clear that he is the most eligible and able person to lead Bersatu and help the party realise its dream to lead Selangor,” he said in a statement.

Goh, the Selangor Bersatu associate wing chief, said the people of Selangor were grateful for Azmin’s contributions when he was the menteri besar as he had introduced initiatives such as a free water scheme and assessment tax exemptions in certain areas.
Selangor folk, he claimed, missed Azmin’s leadership.
“Bersatu and PN are on the right track to retake Selangor and Azmin is the key.”
Yesterday, Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan claimed that Azmin was unfit to be a Bersatu leader as long as the controversy surrounding a leaked explicit video allegedly of him remained unresolved.
The Tasek Gelugor MP planned to refer Azmin to the party’s disciplinary board over alleged threats against division leaders linked to a supposed plot to oust Muhyiddin Yassin as president.
Several Bersatu assemblymen have since called for disciplinary action to be taken against Wan Saiful.
Goh claimed that the individual who had slandered Azmin had a hidden agenda and that such comments would affect the opposition’s chances.
“In fact, we had a bitter experience with this individual after the last general election, where threats were made. We also reported the matter to the leadership.”
