JAKARTA, Sept 18 (Bernama) — Universities must serve as a bridge to strengthen international relations, said the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
His Royal Highness said that education can help strengthen regional ties, propel knowledge-based progress, as well as jointly contribute to the development of the ummah and global well-being.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin added that Malaysia, particularly Perlis, welcomes continuous collaborations with overseas education institutions towards producing highly-skilled, innovative, critical-thinking graduates who can have an impact on society.
“Knowledge gained in lecture halls must be enriched with cross-cultural experiences, international networks, and an open attitude towards diversity,” His Royal Highness, who is also Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), said at Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) here.
Also in attendance for the official visit in conjunction with UniMAP International Leadership Mobility 2025 was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Dr Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who serves as UniMAP’s Pro-Chancellor.
Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed upon arrival by the Rector of UMB, Prof Dr Ir Andi Adriansyah, as well as the university’s lecturers and students.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said the visit opened the way for new collaborations between UniMAP and UMB in various fields, including academic exchanges involving students and lecturers.
“In addition, joint research in the fields of engineering, information technology, management and communications, as well as sharing of industry expertise, can provide direct benefits to both universities,” His Royal Highness said.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin added that UMB has an excellent reputation as a competitive, industry-oriented and progressive private university in preparing the younger generation for the global employment market.
“Hopefully, this relationship between UniMAP and UMB will not merely be a formal memorandum or understanding, but will truly be implemented through programmes that provide added value to students, the academics and people of both countries.
“To the students, especially from Malaysia and Indonesia, I wish to advise them to take full advantage of this collaboration opportunity,” His Royal Highness said.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also advised the students to become a generation that is not only wise and skilled, but also has leadership, discipline and high human values.
