KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Association of Theme Parks and Family Attractions (MATFA) has praised the government’s swift action against taxi touting at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which demonstrates a firm commitment to protecting tourists and upholding the nation’s reputation.

Its president Tan Sri Richard Koh said with Malaysia preparing for Visit Malaysia 2026, which is expected to draw millions of visitors, maintaining integrity, safety and trust in all aspects of travel is essential.

“Tourism is a key pillar of Malaysia’s economy, and ensuring all visitors’ confidence is crucial,” he said in a statement today.

Koh said MATFA stood firmly behind the commitment of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and the ministry in safeguarding the integrity of Malaysia’s tourism sector, particularly as Visit Malaysia 2026 approaches.

“Theme parks and family attractions nationwide are committed to offering safe, enjoyable and memorable experiences for tourists. We stand in solidarity with the government in ensuring every visitor feels protected and welcomed,” he added.

Yesterday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had arrested a taxi tout at KLIA Terminal 2 for allegedly cheating a foreign tourist with an inflated fare.

Loke said the tourist was initially quoted RM60, but was later forced to pay more than RM800. Following his instruction, JPJ tracked down the vehicle, arrested the driver and seized the car.
