JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 8 (Bernama) — A total of RM802 million has been proposed for the development of areas under Johor’s 16 local authorities (PBT) next year, prioritising key sectors including urban beautification, recreation, flood management, Smart City initiatives, roads, public facilities and tourism.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said a total of 82 high-impact projects worth RM310.9 million would be implemented, including 22 public facility projects (RM81 million), 14 urban beautification projects (RM53.6 million), 12 Smart City initiatives (RM18 million), and infrastructure and road projects worth more than RM115 million.
He said the initiatives would include constructing halls, upgrading markets and stalls, building covered futsal courts and the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC), installing smart street lights and closed-circuit television cameras, implementing flood mitigation projects, and carrying out landscaping projects.
“In addition, we will continue to drive the construction of 30,000 Johor Affordable Housing units by 2026 and 100,000 units by 2030, while also ensuring that the People’s Housing Project (PPR) and Rumah Sewa Kerajaan (RSK) are maintained in a more organised manner,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, Mohd Jafni presented the Draft 2026 Budget for the Housing and Local Government portfolio before Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
“The budget highlights the Smart City concept under Johor PLANMalaysia (the Town and Country Planning Department) as one of its key pillars. Projects such as the Johor Urban Observatory, the installation of smart cameras, smart lighting, smart traffic lights, and the digitalisation of the PBT system will bring Johor on par with developed cities in the region.
“Insya-Allah, with the cooperation of all parties, the Draft Budget 2026 will serve as a new catalyst for Johor’s inclusive, progressive and prosperous development,” he said.
