IPOH, Sept 7 (Bernama) — Politics of identity that demeans other groups and exploits religion or ethnicity must be eradicated to ensure success and survival in elections, said Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Dzulkefly, who is also the Health Minister, said identity politics is a major cause of divisions within parties or political coalitions, making it essential to prioritise a more inclusive and principled approach.
“It is very important for us to eradicate identity politics and instead uphold principled politics, rejecting narrow identity-based tactics that undermine unity,” he told reporters after officiating the Perak Amanah Convention here today.
Also present was Perak Amanah chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi.
Regarding the 17th Sabah state election, Dzulkefly said negotiations were progressing prudently, and he hoped the party’s application to contest in five state seats would be approved.
Earlier, Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari said the application to contest in the five seats had been submitted following discussions with the Pakatan Harapan leadership, as well as negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will automatically dissolve on Nov 11 if not done earlier, paving the way for the 17th state polls.
