SEREMBAN, Sept 20 (Bernama) — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) allocated RM500,000 for the upgrading of the scoreboard at the Negeri Sembilan Aquatic Centre in Paroi, says Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

She said the project, which began on Jan 20 and was fully completed on July 29, was a MADANI government initiative to provide athletes with clearer and more accurate information on their progress and achievements during competitions.

“This new facility also serves as a motivational boost for swimmers to train harder, particularly athletes here and in the surrounding areas, while supporting grassroots-to-professional sports talent development.

“The upgrade also reflects KBS’ continuous commitment to strengthening the national sports ecosystem,” she told reporters at a press conference following the upgrading project handover ceremony in Paroi and the national-level OKU (Persons with Disabilities) Sports League 2025 participants engagement programme at the Negeri Sembilan Youth and Sports Complex here, today.

Meanwhile, Hannah said the OKU Sports League was a new ministry initiative through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) to promote sports among the disabled community at both state and national levels.

She said the main goal of the programme was to empower the OKU community through active sports participation, promoting an inclusive, healthy lifestyle, while also supporting the National Sports Vision 2030.

“The organisation of the OKU Sports League aligns with the MADANI Malaysia Framework’s emphasis on the core values of Wellbeing and Compassion, as well as the ‘No One Left Behind’ spirit which focuses on equality and inclusivity in the sports ecosystem,” she said.

She added that the league also served as a platform to unearth new talents to be groomed for higher-level competitions such as Para SUKMA, the ASEAN Para Games and the Paralympics.

Hannah said the response from the OKU community had been very encouraging, with 1,097 participants at the national level, in addition to 15 state-level series involving 5,448 participants, bringing the total number of participants this year to 6,545.

She explained that the OKU Sports League had no maximum age limit (starting from 15 years old) and allowed teams to include athletes with various disabilities, including physical, intellectual, visual and hearing impairments.
