KUANTAN, Sept 2 (Bernama) — The Joint Forces Headquarters (MK AB) Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) construction project in Sungai Pancing here, valued at RM197.98 million, is expected to be completed by July 2026.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the project, which began on Aug 27, 2021, has now achieved 50.10 per cent progress.

He added that the project was initially scheduled for completion on Jan 23, 2025, but the timeline has been extended to July 17, 2026, to ensure that the scope of work is completed properly.

“They (contractors) are confident they can complete it by next July, as the construction uses the IBS (Industrialised Building System) method, which allows for faster progress,” he told reporters at the project site, today.

The RKAT project includes various types of residences, such as bungalows, semi-detached houses and apartment blocks of different classes, comprising more than 280 units in total. Facilities will include a football field, playground, nursery and kindergarten.

Meanwhile, he announced that he had held discussions with the Pahang Public Works Department (PWD), on projects to be prioritised under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), including new road projects which will be refined.

Earlier, Nanta also inspected repair work on Jalan Sungai Lembing (FT231), the main route connecting Kuantan city to Sungai Lembing town, and providing access to the East Coast Expressway (LPT) via the Kuantan Toll Plaza. The project has achieved 60 per cent progress, and is expected to be completed by Sept 30.

“I have reminded the contractor to complete the work according to schedule, without compromising on quality and safety,” he said, adding that the route is important for local residents, tourists and highway users.

He noted that the road had previously suffered severe damage due to groundwater, which affected the stability of the structure and caused waterlogging, potholes and weaknesses, which could compromise user safety.

In addition, he visited the site of the Panching elevated intersection project, on Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan (FT02), valued at RM160 million and currently at the procurement stage.

The project scope includes the construction of a 300-metre elevated intersection, upgrading and repairing the existing road, and the installation of new streetlights and traffic signals.
