KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) — Malaysia and India are well-positioned to unlock vast opportunities in renewable energy, infrastructure, semiconductors and the digital economy as both nations deepen their economic partnership, said the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM).

Speaking at CIIM’s 20th anniversary and a gala dinner held in conjunction with India’s 79th Independence Day here recently, CIIM president Datuk Umang Sharma said India’s rapid rise as the world’s fourth largest economy and Malaysia’s role as a competitive regional hub provided a strong foundation for collaboration.

“The opportunities are tremendous. Areas such as renewable energy, infrastructure, digital transformation and advanced manufacturing — especially in semiconductors and the digital economy — offer fertile ground for partnership,” he said.

CIIM, which represents over 250 Indian companies in Malaysia with investments exceeding US$3 billion and creating more than 30,000 jobs, was established in 2005 to serve as a unified platform for Indian businesses operating in the country.

Sharma said CIIM would host two major initiatives — a seminar in September 2025 on “Exploring Opportunities in Malaysia’s 13th Master Plan” and a leadership summit in the first quarter of 2026, bringing together business, government, and industry icons across various fields.

“These platforms will allow Indian companies to engage in Malaysia’s growth roadmap, particularly in high-potential sectors like semiconductors and digital technologies,” he added.

The gala dinner, graced by His Royal Highness Tunku Ali Redhauddin, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti of Negeri Sembilan, also paid tribute to India-Malaysia ties and the role of CIIM in fostering bilateral trade and investment.
