PUTATAN, Nov 8 (Bernama) — The Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) project for Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) nationwide is scheduled to be fully completed by the first quarter of 2026, said Communications Minister Datuk Fadzil.

He said implementation works are actively underway, including the installation of fibre optic cables and monopoles around military camps, which are progressing smoothly and satisfactorily.

“For the Fifth Infantry Division Headquarters at Lok Kawi Camp, I was informed that the project involving 500 housing units is expected to be completed before the end of this year. Once completed, members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) living here will enjoy faster and more affordable Internet access,” he said.

He said this to reporters after inspecting the FTTH project for Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) and the Point of Presence (PoP) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lok Kawi, at the Fifth Infantry Division Headquarters, Lok Kawi Camp, here today.

Also present was Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

The FTTH project, covering a total of 73 military camps nationwide with more than 59,000 RKAT units, is a collaboration between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and ATM through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Oct 11, 2024.

Elaborating further, said under the programme, ATM personnel can subscribe to the Perajurit Broadband package at RM49 per month for speeds of 100 Mbps, with a promotional rate of RM39 per month for the first six months.

Regarding the Point of Presence (PoP) project, he said it involves installation in 600 schools across Sabah, which has achieved an encouraging progress rate of 85 per cent.

“The ministry has set a deadline until the end of next year, and with only 15 per cent remaining, I believe the appointed company can complete it despite challenges in island schools where installation is more difficult,” he said.

At the same time, urged all schools and military camps involved in the project to implement the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) once the facilities are completed.

“KIS must be implemented to raise users’ awareness about online safety. I do not want a situation where we provide fast and affordable Internet but it is unsafe,” he said.

KIS is a campaign aimed at enhancing digital literacy and awareness in Malaysia, focusing on issues such as cyberbullying, online scams, digital gambling and child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

The campaign targets various segments of society and uses multiple modules to educate users on safe and responsible Internet use.
