RAUB: A Bangladeshi man who was visiting his younger sibling at a highway construction site died after being struck by lightning near Kuala Atok in Dong here yesterday.

The victim, identified only as Md Shahangir, 37, is believed to have been hit by lightning while walking toward the project site to meet his brother around 7pm.

Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said a team went to the Benta Health Clinic in Lipis at 8.30pm, where they found the victim’s body in the emergency zone.

“The victim sustained injuries to his left leg, suspected to have been caused by a lightning strike. A medical officer confirmed his death.

“Shahangir’s younger sibling, who was at the clinic, told police that his brother, who lived in Kuala Lumpur, had arrived at the construction site to visit him on Monday. They had stayed together at the workers’ quarters at the project site,” he said in a statement today.

Shahril said that during the incident, Shahangir’s brother was working at the construction site in Kampung Kuala Atok.

He said the remains were later sent to Raub Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
