PETALING JAYA, Oct 14 — The 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed at a Bandar Utama school here had spurned the advances of the 14-year-old boy who attacked her, a student witness alleged.

The witness said the boy had confessed his feelings to the girl the previous day, but this went unrequited, the New Straits Times reported.

Detailing the horrific attack, the student said the suspect, armed with a sharp weapon, cornered the girl in the school’s female toilet.

“He was holding a knife and had her hostage inside the toilet. Then he started stabbing her repeatedly,” the witness was quoted as saying.

The victim’s friend, who was nearby, immediately ran to get a discipline teacher.

“The teacher rushed to the toilet and tried to kick down the door. After several attempts, she managed to break it open, but the boy escaped and began chasing other students with the knife,” the student said.

Panic erupted as the suspect, his shirt covered in blood, reportedly burst into several Form One classrooms while still holding the weapon.

“He ran into the classes and everyone just started screaming and running outside,” the witness added.

The commotion ended only when the suspect’s elder brother and several teachers managed to restrain him.

“His brother managed to the knife after a struggle with him. The teachers were trying to calm him down,” the witness said.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that the rejected confession was one of the angles being investigated as a possible motive.

“I cannot divulge much as we are still in the midst of investigating the case, including the actual motive for the attack. I will provide further updates once we have solid findings,” he said.
