GYEONGJU: Malaysia’s balanced approach has positioned the country as a bridge connecting various economic blocs in the region amid global trade uncertainties.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim said Malaysia maintains close ties with both the United States and , while simultaneously strengthening regional cooperation through Asean and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum.

“In an increasingly fragmented and uncertain global trade environment, Malaysia’s balanced approach—maintaining strong relationships with the United States and , while anchored in regional cooperation through Asean and platforms like Apec—positions the country as a bridge linking multiple economic blocs in the region,” he said in a statement.

made the remarks after receiving the 2025 Annual Report of the Apec Business Advisory Council (ABAC) from ABAC Malaysia chairman Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam.

The report gathers insights and aspirations from the business community across the Asia-Pacific economies to Apec Economic Leaders, aiming to strengthen inclusive and sustainable growth, enhance business competitiveness, and ensure prosperity benefits all segments of society.

“The report’s call for rules-based open trade aligns with Malaysia’s neutral and pragmatic engagement policy,” he added.

Malaysia will use the report as a key reference in policy discussions during the Apec Economic Leaders’ Summit in Gyeongju, particularly in advocating agendas focused on public welfare, economic equity, and balanced regional development.

is currently on an official visit to attend the 2025 Apec Economic Leaders’ Meeting until Nov 1.

Tomorrow, Anwar is scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s statement at the Economic Leaders’ Dialogue with Guests, focusing on the importance of inclusivity in strengthening the supply chain, digital economy development, and regional cooperation for sustainable growth.

The prime minister is also scheduled to hold several engagement sessions, including with representatives from Nvidia and YTL Power, followed by a session with the Apec-United States Business Coalition.

He will then hold separate engagements with Namhae Chemical Corp and JS Link.
