Authorities still looking for missing couple in boat capsize off Port Klang

KLANG: The authorities are conducting an operation to locate the missing victims of a boat capsize off Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang, here.

Three more boats were deployed at the site today to assist in recovering the white vessel, which overturned yesterday and was partially submerged in water.

Personnel from the police, along with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force (APM) were seen at the location.

Several individuals, believed to be family members of the victims, were also present.

Earlier, it was reported that three people, including a 3-year-old child, had drowned in the incident and a married couple remained missing.

maritime director Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh reportedly said the incident occurred at 4.30pm, with six individuals on board the boat and only one survivor rescued so far.

He added that preliminary investigations suggested the boat had lost control before capsizing about 0.3 nautical miles west of Tanjung Harapan.

The missing victims were identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama. Their son Darren Gan, 3, was found dead.

The bodies of two other victims recovered from the vessel were identified as Cheu Son Hin, 50 and Fong Yong Sen, 29. Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17, was identified as the lone survivor.

Muhaimin also said that the missing victims were believed to have taken their newly repaired boat out to sea for a test before the tragedy occurred.
