SANDAKAN: Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has urged MIC to be rational and avoid making decisions based on promises from another coalition.
He said Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan‘s proposal to meet MIC leaders on MIC‘s role in BN was reasonable.
Asyraf, however, said that numerous meetings have taken place to discuss MIC’s future in BN.
He added that, at the request of BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, every effort has been made to persuade MIC to remain in the coalition, given its long membership in BN.
“Do not let offers that do not benefit the people influence your decisions. We may face difficulties now, but we rise together.
“We have been friends from the beginning. We hope they do not forget this long-standing friendship/”
He said this at a ceramah perdana at the People’s Housing Project in Taman Murni here today.
It was reported yesterday that Mohamad had said that BN would try to arrange a meeting with MIC leaders after the Nov 29 Sabah general election on the party’s position in the coalition.
Meanwhile, Asyraf said the “blue wave” phenomenon in Sabah had gained momentum in the polls.
He added that there have been no issues involving BN candidates in the 45 seats it is contesting.
“This shows our campaign operations did not start only after the nominations — they started five months earlier.
“We have employed various approaches, including door-to-door engagement, and this demonstrates high effectiveness.
“The people of Sabah are beginning to feel that what we have promoted as ‘Bikin Balik Sabah’ (BN’s theme for the Sabah election) resonates with their them,” he said.
