Ask the PM, says Zahid on cabinet reshuffle


HULU LANGAT: Questions regarding the forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle should be directed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

“That question (regarding the Cabinet reshuffle) should be directed to the prime minister,” said Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is the deputy prime minister, was responding to media queries on whether discussions had taken place with leaders of the unity government parties, after attending the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) general assembly meeting today.

Asked further whether had proposed any names to fill the vacancies in the cabinet, Zahid said the prime minister had yet to ask about the matter.

“The prime minister has not asked yet. When the time comes, I will inform the media,” he said

On Dec 7, confirmed that he already had a list prepared for the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle but had yet to hold discussions with leaders of the unity government parties.

Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stepped down in May, while Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Ewon Benedick resigned last month.

The vacancy was further compounded when Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz’s senatorship ended earlier this month.

In the interim, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan has assumed responsibility for the Economy portfolio, while Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani is overseeing the Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability portfolio.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has taken over the duties of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.
