PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet discussed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent official visit to South Korea, describing it as a success with all meetings and bilateral discussions proceeding smoothly, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also the Madani government spokesman, said that Anwar also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the South Korea visit.
“Among the matters conveyed by President Xi to the Prime Minister was his appreciation of the progress in discussions on trade issues between the US and China, facilitated through initial talks between delegations from both countries in Kuala Lumpur during the Asean Summit,” he said at his weekly press conference here on Friday (Nov 7).
Anwar was in South Korea from Oct 30 to Nov 1 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).
In another development, Fahmi mentioned that the Cabinet has agreed to make the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas (FOI) an annual event to be held in Putrajaya.
“The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation to the Higher Education Minister (Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir) and the organising team for the success of this programme, which involves participation from various parties, including Asean secretary-general (Dr Kao Kim Hourn), higher education ministers from Southeast Asia, as well as the private sector,” he said.
Putrajaya FOI 2025, running from Nov 4 to 8, is expected to attract nearly 500,000 physical visitors and about two million participants overall, including 1.5 million virtual attendees from around the world.
Now in its second year, the Putrajaya FOI serves not only as a platform for idea exchange but also as an important avenue for realising knowledge- and creativity-based solutions for the well-being of the people and the progress of the nation.
This evening, Anwar will officiate at the closing ceremony of the festival, organised by the Higher Education Ministry. – Bernama
