KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint amid recent developments along the Thailand-Cambodia border, stressing that any tensions must be addressed through diplomacy and constructive dialogue.
Anwar said he conveyed this message during a phone conversation with his Thai counterpart, Anutin Charnvirakul.
“We discussed current developments along the Thailand-Cambodia border. I emphasised the importance of maintaining calm and ensuring that any differences do not lead to unnecessary tensions,” he said in a Facebook statement.
He added that any arising issues should be addressed through the Joint Border Committee (JBC), which serves as a key platform for bilateral engagement and dispute resolution.
“Malaysia believes that dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual understanding are the best way to safeguard regional peace and stability,” he said.
During the conversation, Anwar also confirmed that Anutin is expected to make an official visit to Malaysia in the near future.
The visit, to be held following Anutin’s formal appointment as Thailand’s Prime Minister, will aim to further strengthen ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Anutin, who was sworn in earlier this month as Thailand’s 31st prime minister, is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as border security, trade, tourism, and regional diplomacy during his upcoming visit.
