Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will attend an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, Qatar, on Monday (Sept 15) to discuss Israel’s attack on the Qatari capital last week.
The foreign ministry said the summit would be attended by leaders and representatives of member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
Anwar‘s participation in the summit shows Malaysia’s solidarity with Qatar, and is a continuation of Malaysia’s efforts in defending the rights of the Palestinian people and condemning the brutality and violence perpetrated by Israel, the statement said.
Anwar is scheduled to address the summit to reaffirm Malaysia’s firm stance on the urgent need to end Israel’s blatant violations of international law that threaten regional and global peace.
On Sept 9, five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer were killed in Doha when Israel bombed buildings housing several members of the Hamas political bureau while they were discussing the latest proposals by the US to end the war in Gaza.
Qatar, the US and Egypt had previously been mediators in the discussions to end the conflict.
