PETALING JAYA:

Prime Minister Ibrahim’s decision on the resignations of Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will be announced in due course, says the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The PMO confirmed that had received the duo’s letters of resignation and applications to go on leave.

“After going through their applications, the prime minister approved their leave applications.

“Further decisions related to the matter will be announced later by the prime minister,” it said in a statement.

Rafizi and Nik Nazmi had announced their resignations as economy minister and natural resources and environmental sustainability minister, respectively, earlier today following their defeats in the central leadership elections.

Rafizi previously said party leaders who lose internal elections should make way for those who have been given a new mandate, adding that this was the practice in countries that upheld democratic principles.

Rafizi had lost the PKR deputy presidency – a post he won in the 2022 party polls – to Anwar’s daughter, Anwar.

did not take part in the 2022 party elections and was appointed as a PKR vice-president.

Nik Nazmi, a running mate of Rafizi’s in the PKR elections, failed to defend his PKR vice-presidency.

The four vice-president’s posts were won by menteri besar Amirudin Shari, Sungai Buloh MP R Ramanan, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun and federal minister Chang Lih Kang.
