KOTA KINABALU, Nov 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim has called on the people and leaders of Sabah to strengthen cooperation with the federal government to ensure continued stability and economic growth for the state.

Speaking at a gathering with industry players here on Saturday night, said unity between the state and federal administrations is crucial to driving economic progress and improving the people’s quality of life.

“Work with the state, work with the federal. That’s how we ensure Malaysia continues to grow as a great nation,” he said.

The prime minister stressed that cooperation, not division, must guide the nation’s leadership, adding that political infighting and disunity have cost the country valuable years of development.

“We have lost many years quarrelling over politics. When we fight, nobody wins except a few individuals who grow richer while the people continue to struggle,” he said.

“Our focus must be to help the business community and our rakyat. That is our mission,” he added, reiterating his commitment to being a leader for all Malaysians, regardless of race or region.

“I am the prime minister for the Malays, the Chinese, the Sabahans, the Sarawakians, for Perlis and for . I must be a prime minister for all — only then can we save this nation,” he said.

reminded leaders in Sabah to prioritise stability and economic cooperation rather than divisive racial or regional politics.

“I cannot entertain racial politics. Others may want to, but I want everyone to work together. Ensure the state remains peaceful and that the leadership brings Sabah’s message forward in unity,” he said.

Focusing on the economy, Anwar said both state and federal governments must align their efforts to strengthen business and trade, create jobs, and improve education, infrastructure, and healthcare in Sabah.

“Our children need jobs. They must get better training. We must improve our infrastructure, our education, and our healthcare. Economic focus is key,” he said.

Acknowledging the political heat expected in the coming weeks, Anwar urged calm and discipline among the people, reminding industry players and leaders that peace and cooperation are fundamental to attracting investment and driving growth.

“There can be no business without peace. Business cannot grow without cooperation between the national and state governments. So we must nurture this spirit of understanding,” he said.

While admitting he is not a perfect leader, Anwar said his government remains focused on delivering results and reforms.

“I don’t claim to have all the answers or to be perfect. But I can say that we have done our best, and we will continue working hard to ensure Malaysia rises as a great nation,” he said.

He added that the federal government’s economic policies are designed to uplift all Malaysians, including the people of Sabah, through partnership and shared commitment to progress.

“Choose leaders who will work with us, not against us,” he said, adding, “Together, we can raise living standards and strengthen the economy in Sabah.”

The prime minister who is on a two-day working visit to Sabah, is scheduled to attend several events with local leaders.

On Sunday morning, Anwar and his entourage will meet potential voters and have breakfast at Sunday Gaya Street.

In the evening, he is expected to announce the list of Parti Keadilan Rakyat () candidates for the 17th Sabah General Election at the Sabah International Convention Centre, before continuing his visit to the Tawau district on Monday. — The Borneo Post
