KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim today stressed that rejecting the attendance of United States President Donald at the upcoming 47th Asean Summit is not the way to resolve the Gaza crisis.

According to his senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, acknowledged that some parties, including local political leaders, had called for ‘s invitation to be withdrawn due to his administration’s stance on Palestine.

However, the prime minister insisted that true diplomacy requires direct engagement, not avoidance.

“Rejecting ‘s presence at Asean is not the solution. The principles of diplomacy demand that we speak the truth face-to-face, not by avoidance,” Tunku Nashrul said, quoting the prime minister during a daily briefing.

“By doing so, Malaysia not only demonstrates solidarity with Gaza but also shows wisdom as a courageous host – firm in principle and mature in diplomacy,” he added.

Tunku Nashrul clarified that Trump’s presence, along with other world leaders, should not be seen as an endorsement of his policies but as a recognition of Malaysia’s leadership as the chair of Asean.

He affirmed that Malaysia will use the summit to push for stronger international solidarity on Gaza while also advancing Asean broader agenda.

This includes boosting economic cooperation, attracting strategic investments, and accelerating regional integration.

“The Madani government will ensure the Asean Summit stands as proof that Malaysia can lead with wisdom — outspoken in defending the oppressed, steadfast in championing the people’s interests, and prudent in balancing global diplomacy,” he said.
